Inoculate Yourself Against SWS :

This winter, millions of Americans raced to get flu shots. Yet, most of us continue to leave ourselves vulnerable to a far more deadly syndrome. And I'm not referring to SARS. Nor am I referring to AIDS, which kills millions across the globe each year. The syndrome I'm referring to is far more deadly than AIDS because it prevents most of us from ever really living in the first place. The syndrome I'm referring to is the "Someday When -" Syndrome.

You know it. It's the syndrome that causes you to say, "Someday when I have more time, I'm going to finally buy that new car." Or perhaps it causes you to say, "Someday when I have more money, I will give to my favorite charity." Or maybe, "Someday when I have more money, I'm going to go buy that new car." The problem with SWS is that it's premised on a lie - the lie of someday.

The truth is that you don't have a someday. Someday is not promised to any of us. The old expression says Yesterday is the past, Tommorow is the future, Today is the present....Treat it as a gift!!! After all, you probably knew someone who had their someday eaten way in weeks due to an illness or someone who had their someday destroyed in the blink of an eye due to an accident. In fact, on September 11, 2001, More than 3,000 Americans saw their someday never come.

On that tragic day, we wept for the husbands who lost wives. We wept for the wives who lost husbands. We wept for the parents who lost children and the children who lost parents. And we also should have wept for the realization that our own somedays will soon be lost.

Someday, someone in the World Trade Center was going to start a charity that would not only help sick children, but give thousands of families hope and love. But someday never came. Someday, someone on one of those planes was going to start a business that would not only provide jobs to thousands but also provide them with homes, cars and a part of the American dream. But someday never came. Someday, someone in the Pentagon was going to repair a relationship with a loved one. But someday never came.

There are no guarantees about a someday for any of us. The only day we have is TODAY. So let's make the most of it. Today, let's do all of the things we say we are going to do "someday when -" So tonight, before you go to bed, ponder the poem: What Have I Done Today?

er. Just remember what Frank Sinatra once said, "The best revenge is massive success."

Poem - "What Have I Done Today?" :

by: Anonymous

I shall do so much in the years to come, But what have I done today? I shall give my gold in a princely sum, But what did I give today? I shall build a mansion in the sky, But what have I built today? It's sweet in idle dreams to bask, But if not I, who shall do the task? Yes, this is the question each soul must ask: What have I done today?

Denis Waitley Success "The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."
